About the author

My Chinese name is Zhuoyang Lian, My English name is John, and my nickname is Mcdull.

  • My dad decided my last name “Lian”
  • My grandparents picked my first name “Zhuoyang” with the meaning of “sun rising”, hoping that I will be the glorious people in my family
  • I selected “John” as my English name since its pronounciation is similar to my last name’s pronounciation in Chinese
  • I selected “Mcdull” because of a Hong-Kong animated movie “My life as Mcdull“. In the movie Mcdull is an innocent piggy who has a nice dream of future, and who is a little stubborn, a little curious and a little virtuous. “He has a heart of gold, but his brain is not very good. He is an ordinary pig in every aspect, but he has lots of dreams. Every time he tries, he fails; he is disappointed but tries again, exploring other dreams. By this, he creates his own colourful world. He lives his life simply and naturally. He is not perfect, but his attitude towards life, namely of never giving up, makes him a popular character.” (quoted from Wikipedia)
